Can personalized text messages help people affected by diabetes stay healthy?
About the Study
We want to know if and how sharing health information in text messages can help people affected by diabetes to stay healthy, especially during disease outbreaks like COVID-19.
Who Can Participate?
You can participate if you:
Are 18 years or older and
Live in Georgia and
Have a cellphone that accepts and sends text messages and
Are not currently pregnant and
Are willing to spend up to 4 hours of your time over 12 months*
Are affected by diabetes in at least one of the following ways:
You have been told by a healthcare provider that you have diabetes or pre-diabetes or
You are at risk for diabetes (e.g., overweight/obesity, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney disease, gestational diabetes) or
You have a family history of diabetes or
You are a caregiver of someone with diabetes.
Who is Doing this Study?
This study is a collaboration between Emory University, Georgia Institute of Technology and Morehouse School of Medicine. This research is being funded by the US National Institutes of Health and its National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (grant number 1U01DK132737-01). ; ClinicalTrials.gov ID NCT06141850; Emory IRB STUDY#00006531).
Why are We Doing this Study?
Adults at risk for or living with diabetes are at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19. We want to find ways of sharing health information with people affected by diabetes to help them care for themselves and their families.
